Do you know about the Virginia Early Intervention Reading Initiative (EIRI)? The Virginia EIRI’s goal is to serve students in grades K-3 by helping reduce reading difficulties through early diagnosis and immediate intervention. The initiative assists districts by identifying children in need of additional literacy instruction and allocates funding to provide early intervention services to those students.
Similar to the Algebra Readiness Initiative, participating schools administer a diagnostic assessment to students identified as needing reading intervention. Schools provide these students with at least 2 – 2.5 hours of additional instruction per week.
UI – PCG Education is proud to fully support the Virginia EIRI. For example, we have been a partner with Richmond Public Schools (RPS) for over a decade, helping to raise achievement in literacy. Currently, UI is working with almost 40 schools at RPS, supporting the Virginia EIRI and ARI and handling coordination of instructor hiring, training, placement and management.
Our programming allows principals to focus on student groupings, grade levels, and coordinated schedules, without having to manage staff, coordinate, progress monitor, evaluate, and payroll the human capital needed for support in an elementary school environment.
