After three years of working with Los Patojos, a school in Jocotenango, Guatemala, the team at PCG recently stepped up for the fourth year to make a difference in the lives of students. Dreamed into existence by Juan Pablo Romero Fuentes, Los Patojos (The Little Ones) was started in his family home. Kids in his community could come during the day or after school to be safe, enjoy a healthy meal, and learn through creative games and activities.
Since those early years in his family home, Juan Pablo has established a beautiful school where over 400 children learn, grow, and thrive. Each year he has added another grade to give his students the best chance at a successful future. In 2020, Los Patojos will have its very first graduating class!
After donating $25,000 last year, PCG staff recently raised $30,724 in just two weeks to help fund:
- Curriculum, ensuring it is aligned with national standards to graduate
- Career exploration and work-based opportunities with local businesses for students to develop job-readiness skills
- The role of a new career guidance counselor, with tools and strategies to help the first graduating class transition into the workforce and/or into higher education
As the first 11th grade class is set to graduate next year, the guidance counselor role will be especially important in helping students navigate and explore opportunities for a successful future. PCG staff couldn't be happier to directly help 28 students earn their high school diplomas!
